The Pre-Retirees of today are redefining how we think of this group. Their buying power is formidable, and their discretionary income is impressive. Over 80% are homeowners, and in contrast to
younger homeowners, those without a mortgage for the first time outnumber those with one. In fact, vacation home ownership peaks within this group. Pre-Retirees are going through lifestyle changes and
their buying habits reflect it. They still spend a lot on home furnishings and decorative accessories, but they're less likely to do everything themselves around the home and begin to prefer to pay
others to handle things like lawn and garden care. They also surpass any other group when it comes to expenditures new cars and trucks. Necessary expenses such as health insurance, medical services,
drugs, and eyeglasses eventually take a greater bite out of their wallets than younger groups.
